Mega Man

Materials:
Size US H8 5.00 mm crochet hook
   Caron perfect Match yarn
Slate Blue
Sunflower
             Red Heart Supersaver yarn
Red
Small amount of black
             Caron Simply Soft yarn
Dark Country Blue
Light Blue (can’t remember the name of this one. Glacier blue, maybe?)
Country Blue (optional)
             Green and white felt
             Tapestry needle
             Stuffing
Needle and thread (for sewing on felt)

Gauge: Not important to this project, but I tend to crochet really tight. You might want to use a smaller hook so there are no holes where the stuffing shows through.

Special stitches:
-Everything that says decrease (sc dec, hdc dec, etc.) means that you should decrease over the next two stitches. Any decrease over 3 stitches will be marked.
   - BLO = back loops only and FLO = front loops only
   - The numbers of stitches total in the round is usually listed at the end of each row in parenthesis. (Like this.)
   - Stitch markers are your friend. I like to use one long piece of yarn that I leave in each round so I can keep track of where the last few rounds began.

Got all that? Let’s go!

   -continuing where tush left off…
Round 1) The first 4 sts will sc the leg and tush together. Sc through the first 4 sts and the center 4 sts of the BACK of one leg. (Make sure the toe is pointing away from the butt!)    DO NOT CUT YARN OR END OFF!! We will be coming back to the head after all the details get sewn onto the body!

*- This doll has a VERY BIG head. When this head is stuffed, it is super heavy. This means that with a neck of only 14 stitches, the head will wobble like crazy. I HIGHLY suggest either omitting round 28 (and adjusting accordingly for the neck/head increases) or like… gluing a toilet paper roll or something into his neck. Seriously, you won’t make a very good doll if you don’t fix this.*

Light Blue Chest Triangle (make 1):
   -ch 7 with light blue
Row 1) sc in 2nd from hook and across, turn (6)
2) do not ch 1, sc dec over first 2 sts, sc 2, sc dec over last 2 sts, turn (4)
3) sc across, turn (4)
4) sc dec twice, turn (2)
5) sc across, turn (2)
6) sc dec (1)
-end off, leaving long tail. This gets sewn on the upper chest, right beneath the Navi Icon. I suggest you make the icon and then check how you want to place them together before you sew them on.

Chest (Navi) Icon (make 1):
   -ch 2 with red
Round 1) Hdc 6 in 2nd ch from hook and join with a sl st to first st. TURN. (6)
2) Ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in same, and hdc 2 in each st around. Join and turn. (12)
3) Ch 2, hdc in same, hdc 2 in each st around. Join with yellow and turn. (24)
4) Ch 2, hdc in BLO of same, and hdc around in BLO. Join. (24)
   - End off, leaving a long sewing tail. With a length of black yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider on a diagonal black line that slants up to the right with a small triangle at either end. Stuff icon lightly and sew to upper middle chest.

Shoulder pads (make 2):
   -ch 6 with yellow
Round 1) Hdc in 2nd from hook, hdc 4 across, and hdc 3 in last. Hdc 5 across other side of starting ch, and hdc 3 in last st.
2) Hdc 5, (hdc 2) in next 3 sts, hdc 5, (hdc 2) in last 3
3) Sc in first st, sl st with next st, and end off, leaving a long tail
   - Sew pads to tops of both shoulders.

Side stripes (make 2):
-ch about 25 with light blue (or length needed to stretch from armpit to top of color change in boot)
Row 1) Hdc in 2nd from hook and across
-end off, leaving a LONG tail. Sew stripe from armpit to top of color change in boots.

Head:
*Round 1) sc around once more with dark blue (14) *omit if you omitted 28*
*2) (sc 6, sc 2 in next) twice, sc in first st of next round and move stitch marker to next (second) st. (16)
*3) sc around, join with sl st in first st with cream and turn
*4) ch 1, (sc 2 in next st, sc 1) four times, sc 1 but finish st with slate blue (final yarn over and pull through - all color changes will be done this way!! Do not cut cream, just leave it here, we’ll pick it back up next round), sc again in same st, sc 1, (sc 2 in next st, sc 1) three times. Join with (still blue) sl st and turn (24)
*if you omitted round 28, skip these four rows. Instead, maybe… hrm, I would join the last st of the neck with  cream, sc 12, switch to blue like described in round 4, and then sc the last 12 with slate blue.*
5) ch 1, (sc 2 in next st, sc 1) six times, but finish last sc with cream (pick up cream from where you left it), (sc 2 in next st, sc 1) six times, join with (still cream) sl st and turn (36)
6) ch 1, (sc 2 in next st, sc 2) six times, but finish last sc with slate, (sc 2 in next st, sc 2) six times, join with (still slate) sl st and turn (48)
7) ch 1, (sc 2 in next st, sc 5) four times, but finish last sc with cream, (sc 2 in next st, sc 5) four times, join with (still cream) sl st and turn (56)
8 ) ch 1, (sc 2 in next st, sc 6) four times, but finish last sc with slate, (sc 2 in next st, sc 6) four times, join with (still slate) sl st and turn (64)
9-19) ch 1, sc 32 with one color, switch to other, sc 32 remaining with second color. Join with second colored sl st and turn
20) ch 1, sc 32 with slate, DO NOT change to cream and sc last 32 with slate in BLO (or FLO, depending on which side you had sticking out when you made the body…), join and turn.
21-24) ch 1, sc around with SLATE ONLY! Join
25) ch 1, (sc dec, sc 5) eight times, join (56)
26) ch 1, (sc dec, sc 5) eight times, join (48)
27) ch 1, (sc dec, sc 2) twelve times, join (36)
28) ch 1, (sc dec, sc 1) twelve times, join (24)
29) ch 1, (sc dec, sc 1) eight times, join (16)
30) ch 1, sc dec around (8 )
-this round or the previous one is a good time to sew on the ear icons, face, forehead triangle, and stuff.
31) ch 1, sc dec around (4)
-end off and cinch opening shut. Sew finished head stripe on across the head as best you can. Smiley

Ear Icons (make 2):
   -ch 3 with red
Round 1) Dc 5 in 3rd ch from hook and join with a sl st to 3rd ch of ch 3. TURN. (6)
2) Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same, and dc 2 in each st around. Join and turn. (12)
3) Ch 3, dc in same, dc 2 in each st around. Join with yellow and turn. (24)
4) ch 2, hdc in BLO of same st as join, hdc 5 in BLO, (hdc 2 in next, hdc 5) in BLO rest of the way around, join and turn (28)
5) ch 2, hdc around
-end off, leaving long tail for sewing icons to either side of the head. With a length of black yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider on a diagonal black line with a small triangle at either end. If you want to be perfectionist, Mega’s left ear (HIS left) points the same way as his chest icon, where his right points in the opposite direction. Stuff icons lightly and sew to the head.

Helmet triangle:
-ch 13 with country blue (or slate if you don’t have country)
Row 1) sc in 2nd from hook and across, turn (12)
2) ch 1, sc dec over first two sts, sc across, sc dec over last two sts, turn (10)
3) repeat row 2 (8 )
4) repeat row 2 (6)
5) repeat row 2 (4)
5) sc dec twice, turn (2)
6) sc dec (1)
-end off, leaving long tail to sew triangle on forehead right at the color change line.

Helmet middle stripe:
If you do not have country blue or wish to omit this piece, you can! Just sew the stripes on right on top of the head.
   -ch 13 with country blue
Row 1) hdc in 2nd from hook and across, turn (12)
2) ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc across, hdc 2 in last st, turn (14)
3-4) ch 2, hdc across, turn
5) repeat row 2 (16)
6-29) ch 2, hdc across, turn
30) ch 2, hdc dec, hdc across, hdc dec in last 2 sts, turn (14)
31-32) ch 2, hdc across, turn
33) repeat row 30 (12)
34) ch 2, hdc across
-end off, leaving long tail to sew to head. This piece should be big enough to stretch from the color change on his forehead and over his head to the base of his helmet. Once the two yellow and two blue stripes are sewn on to this and the head is done, sew this over the top of the head.

Helmet light blue side stripes (make 2):
-ch about 62 (it should be as long as the middle helmet stripe) with light blue
1) hdc in 2nd from hook and across.
-end off, leaving long tail. Sew down length of each side of middle helmet stripe.

Helmet Yellow Stripes (make one of each):
   Big:
   -ch 9 with yellow
1) hdc in 2nd from hook and across (8 ), turn
2-5) ch 2, hdc across, turn
-end off, leaving long tail to sew square to middle helmet stripe
   Small:
   -ch 9 with yellow
1) hdc in 2nd from hook and across (8 ), turn
2-27?) ch 2, hdc across, turn
   - Make this stripe as long as necessary to stretch all the way to the end of the middle stripe. End off, leaving long tail to sew square to middle helmet stripe.

Other details:
If you want to make some black spiky hair, I got lazy and just made some out of felt. (Cut a shape that looks kind of like a bat and cinch it down the middle and…er, well, do what you like.) I also did not give him his little slate-colored backpack/jetpack looking thing. He’s cuter and more huggable without it, but you can attempt to add it if you’d like.
